We wanted a house in Portugal but couldn't have afforded one in the Algarve |
||
We had already tried to buy a house in a village called Espeche which is just inland od Praia Da Luz, but ultimately couldn't get the money together. we then spent months looking at websites of old ruined houses thinking we could fix one up bit by bit. All the websites seemed to be based in the same area of central Portugal. So armed with all our print outs of all the houses we had seen on line we went to see them and booked to stay nearby as it seemed to us on our map of portugal. We found somewhere to stay that was near the main roads north and south about half way between Lisbon and Porto, roughly 100 + miles either way. ultimately we didn't buy any of the ruins we had found on line because they were so remote, and hard to get to having already flown to lisbon or porto then driven a couple of hours... we didn't want to spend another hour driving over mountains on mad roads. so we just bought somewhere down the road from where we were staying because the place and the people were lovely. Bought from a Portugeuse family and rebuilt to our specifications in 4 MONTHS! and it was easy!
